Venom review in the Daily Mail
Posted on: Monday, February 22, 2010
Read the Daily Mail's review of Venom below:
'Only the second thriller by talented Brady, who won the Whitbread Book Award back in 1993, with her novel Theory of War, this confirms the promise of its predecessor Bleedout.
But it’s a thriller with woman’s touch, a million miles away from the macho-extravaganzas of Lee Child, a deftly woven tale of 29-year-old physicist Helen Freyl and her colony of bees – insects that happen to produce venom that can protect against radiation poisoning.
A giant pharmaceutical company run by smooth British entrepreneur Sir Charles Hay wants control of the venom, and will do anything to get it, even to the extent of Hay proposing marriage to Ms Freyl.
The physicist smells a rat and recruits her childhood sweetheart, ex-con David Marion, to protect her and the bees. Almost reflective in tone, and elegantly written, Venom should be sipped, not swallowed – but it has a distinctive sting.'
